Simon Marty came to guitar making through being dissatisfied with the quality and consistency of many well known guitars he encountered while studying classical guitar.
He set out to find the limitations of the traditional fan-braced guitar design and then explore and develop new design concepts.
Having a scientific mind and holding a PhD in electrical engineering, Simon used laser holography, frequency response testing and timbre element analysis computer modelling to study soundboard vibrations.
He came up with a radial bracing pattern using composite struts of carbon fibre and a scalloped bridge similar to John Gilbert, enabling him to build both Spruce and Cedar toped instruments with arched South American rosewood back and sides.
His guitars are not only incredibly powerful but also very refined and the quality of the timber and finish on his guitars is second to none.
Simon works alone, however it is worth noting that his guitars are French polished and lacquered by Teen Goh or Robin Moyes respectively, both excellent makers in there own right.
Some famous guitarists who play Marty guitars are: Daniel O'Brien (Canada), Karin Schaupp (Australia).
