Gerard Gilet has been making guitars since 1976. In November of 1989 he moved his workshop to new premises in Botany where he not only builds guitars but imports and supplies timber for musical instrument builders.

Gerard builds both steel and classical guitars. Many other Australian luthiers like Simon Marty and Barton Staggs (nee McDonald) began building in his workshop. He also teaches guitar construction and has been hired as a consultant for guitar manufacturers in Asia.

He makes guitars in the contemporary Australian style with arched backs and radial and lattice bracing. He produces guitars with increased volume sustain and response while still retaining a traditional sound.

Gilet guitars feature beautiful timbers and superb workmanship, their tone has been described as Fleta crossed with a Smallman. Sting, Guss Isador and Wilfred Halter have recently purchased guitars from him.
