Matthew Bolliger grew up in the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney, home of many instrument makers including John Hall and Greg Smallman .

Mathew constructed his first Violin at the age of 17, under the supervision of the eminent Australian Violin maker C.A. Vitiliotis, he also constructed his first classical guitar at this time. In 1988 he was accepted for study at the prestigious Kantonale Geigenbauschule Brienz, Switzerland and took the opportunity of working as a violin repairer in Basel. More recently he attended an intensive course in stringed instrument restoration at Oberlin, Ohio and a double bass building workshop in Quebec.

His brother Philip is a excellent classical guitar and recognised composer and has helped Matthew develop his instruments.
Matthew's guitars have a strong rich tone and a distinctive artistic look which makes them very popular with leading performers.
